History
Mine bosses were some of the few survivors of the Cataclysm in the region. The highest level of bosss was in the office in Torgaro #12 when the blast scoured the upper mine tunnels.
When mining resumed after the 30-Year-Winter, King Rens Torgaro of Orsholon realized they would need to reinstall the organizational structure of the mine operations to get the most out of the mine and to rebuild.
Purpose
Benefits
As mentioned above, the Royal Family holds miners in high regard. It is not unusual for King Roigos II of Orsholonto visit the mine, with the express purpose of thanking the miners and gifting them with small but valuable items for their service. On one occasion, for example, the King arrived with a small poucj filled with diamonds, all in the range of .5 carat in weight. Each miner received a raw diamond as a gift, and was told that the diamonds were retrieved from the very mine they worked in.
All miners receive the best of healthcare at no charge. While citizens of Orsholon are all given free healthcare, the miners receive priority treatment.
Upon retirement, miners with at least 20 years of service receive their entire salary for the remainder of their lives.
Demographics
Pay
Miners, as a rule, are paid well. Mine bosses, with their level of authority, are paid very well.
As the mine is actually owned by the Kingdom of Orsholon, it is not a profit-making enterprise, per se. So there is no profit-sharing available. The Royal Family of Orsholon, however, began as miners, and hold the miners in high regard. Thus, the miners are all compensated more than fairly.
To start, bosses will make approximately 50gp per day. At this wage, they can live comfortably in the city and provide for their families as well as some luxuries. Compensation for bosses increases by 5gp per day for every year in the position. This is to keep bosses, with their knowledge, in positions as long as possible.
All mine employees are paid in gold at the Directorate on a bi-weekly basis.

Social Status
Miners are held in high regard in Orsholon. Had it not been for The Cave of the Orsholon, the old Torgaro #12 mine, there might not be anyone left to have built the kingdom. Additionally, the wealth and status of the kingdom comes from the mine. Therefore. miners are part of the backbone of this region.
Structure
Mine bosses always start out as journeymen miners, learning the basic operation of the mine. They work together with more experienced miners who help them learn and observe proper safety protocols, equipment operation, and procedures.
Around their third year of employment, the journeymen can begin specializing in the type of work they would like to do. They can request to be placed on explosives teams, safety teams, equipment operation or maintenance, logistics, and other specializations.
While many go no further than the specializations, a few continue to work in hopes of being a mine boss, postions of authority and great responsibility.
Beyond mine bosses, some end up working for the Orsholonian Directorate of Mining.
