Adifaah Ayoub

Adifaah was born into a Chadi trading family in 1161 ATG. His family had the reputation of being able to find and trade virtually any goods, but they regularly rejected items that were clearly illegal.

As Adifaah grew older, however, he developed an interest in Ene. Although the items are illegal, he nonetheless sought to learn all he could, believing he might be able to piece together some of the ancient technology into working machines. His family frowned on such pursuits, and were quick to punish Adifaah is he was found researching Ene.

As he grew to maturity, Adifaah also saw the financial benefit that could be had by trafficking Enen Finds. He spent more than a decade refining his knowledge and skills, finding and retrieving rare enen materials. He has yet to find any working objects, but the undreground market for these items is lucrative. Enough so that he has been able to create a library and study office for himself in Lawcrane, in the area known as The Docks. Here he researches, settles contracts, and answeres correspondence, particularly from those who seek his services.

His knowledge in Ene is so deep and broad that he has been nicknamed “Professor”. But since Ene is still illegal to possess, he is quite wary of anyone he does not know.

Adifaah does not brag about hi accomplishements, as most of his biggest ones would be highly illegal. But it is rumoured that he has found at least one metallic plate with round buttons made of a light, glass-like material in shades of green and red. Fromt he back of this panel, connected to the housing of the buttons, were small metal filaments encased in a pliable material.

Adifaah is considered one of the foremost experts in Ene, and is often consulted when governments make finds – for a fee, of course.

Shashi, Chadigartu

His family, though never attending any formal school, was incredibly knowledgeable in many subjects, due to their exposure and experience with trading. Adifaah, similarly, has a very broad base of knowledge gleaned from his family as well as from studying his pursuits in books and interviews with relevant experts.

Adifaah's line of work is less than "legal". Knowledge of Ene is not illegal, and he is often consulted as an expert on Ene. But actually possessing and trading Ene finds is hgihly illegal. Adifaah keeps his contacts and work very, very close to the vest to avoid legal entanglements. Even so, just to be sure, he has greased the wheels with more than a few officials to keep the authorities away, inicluding some who have availed themselves of Adifaah's services.

Adifaah had a few run-ins with the law early in his career. One naerly cost him his life.

He had made a find of Enen material in a remote region at the base of the Rinzeremel Mountains. Unbeknownst to him, this area had been claimed by a faction of the Dyan, a group that is dedicated to eradicating all traces of Ene and punishing those who possess it. The Dyan would often exact their own version of punishment rather than rely on the authorities, and the rumours of their techniques sound as brutal and hideous as can be imagined.

A guard from a Dyan facility spotted Adifaah moving in a canyon from afar, and gathered a group to catch him. Adifaah was not yet skilled enough in moving stealthily, nor in avoiding capture, and was soon their prisoner. The only remaining fact that has been verified is that Adifaah was taken to The Dyan Headquarters.

All that is known after is that he emerged from the headquarters unscathed a few days later, without any of the loot he had potentially recovered. The story is told that he struck a deal with the Qano Gekui (Holy Ruler) of the Dyan himself, and that it was agreed that any find that was within 2 days of the headquarters would be offered to the Dyan first. As such, Adifaah is very wary of returning to the area. At least, as far as anyone knows.

He is still in communication with his family, although his family is not proud of him. They see his work as a stain on their trading reputation, and publicly disavow him. Privately, however, they see him three to four times a year when their business and Adifaah's cause them to be near each other.

In addition to the Dyan, Adifaah is often consulted by royal families and rulers/governments of other countries. And he still maintains membership in a number of trade guilds.

Lawcrane – The Docks

Adifaah keeps all his personal affairs quite secret, but it is known he owns a few building in Lawcrane that acts as his base of operations. He travles quite a bit and can only be found there a few days per month, usually near the beginning of the month.

He has never been at a lack for wealth, coming from a successful trading family. But much of his wealth is tied up in transactions, so there may be times he is less ablr to pay for his needs, if only temporarily. At least, that’s the impression he likes to give.
