Know as FRDS, (or Freds), Frenetic Random Displacement Syndrome is a temporary condition brought on by teleportation. Its occurrence is rare, but its effects can be quite disorienting and even dangerous.
History
The first recorded case of FRDS happened shortly after [history:42735991-17f4-4eb5-bf36-9bdceb67d1be]The Cataclysm[/history]. At the time, there were individuals who still remembered the Urnati civilization, and one used a teleportation potion to travel across the continent to see what other damage had occurred.
They came back, shell-shocked that it appeared that nothing was left unscathed. He was feeling ill shortly after, and many felt it was due to the horror he had witnessed. Others thought it was because of the distance he had travelled.
Then, he suddenly disappeared. The next time they saw him was 90 minutes later when he appeared in the washroom of a woman’s house. He appeared confused and sick to his stomach. Before he could figure out where he was, he was off again. He finally returned to his town after three months. He had been teleported to the other side of the Rinzeremel Mountains and it had taken him all that time to return.
Prevention
The only real prevention is to not teleport. But there are no signs of potential for suffering from FRDS prior to teleporting, with the exception of familial history.
Prognosis
Most recover with no ill effects, as long as their teleports were all safe. In fact, some villagers who have never left their locale and then contract FRDS seem to just pop around from point to point in their village as they really have no other points of reference.
Symptoms
Approximately 24 hours after a teleportation, an individual afflicted with FRDS will begin feeling nauseous and light-headed. Within hours of this malaise setting in, they will find they are teleporting to random locations. As teleportation is really only possible to locations an individual has already seen, the destination will likely be familiar. However, if they have not been in the location for some time, it could lead to potentially dangerous teleports. For example, if you remember an expansive field of flowers, but there has since been a building constructed there, you might teleport directly into a wall, with potentially deadly results.
The teleportation will happen randomly, with each teleport being no quicker than 2 minutes from the last and no more than 10 minutes. This will continue for approximately 48 hours after first onset.
Transmissionvectors
FRDS can be triggered in some individuals through the use of teleportation. This can come from the use of potion-assisted teleportation, magical teleportation or teleportation by others, including dragons with the ability.
Treatment
The only real treatment is time. It eventually wears off, if the individual has survived, and they should be cautioned to never teleport again. Once someone has suffered from FRDS, they are more likely to suffer from it again.
