Biqawo Re Korukua (Yellow Powder Sickness)

The first know cases were recorded in Kerran, a now ruined settlement in the Kingdom of Orsholon – Region. Miners for Blackglass came across a vein of yellow powder in the Dead Hills Mine.

After contact, the miners began falling ill. The miners closed off that are of the mine and stopped mining in the area.

Contact with yellow powder is the only known means of acquiring BRK. Hand washing seems to mitigate most effects if done soon after contact. The yellow powder appears to enter the body through contact or inhalation, and begin its damaging effects almost immediately.

Avoiding contact with yellow powder is imperative. If there must be contact, such as for removal for safety concerns, thick gloves and items to protect the powder from entering the nose, mouth and eyes are needed to prevent exposure.

If the berry syrup is administered within 2-3 days of contact, prognosis for recovery is very good. Again, damage already done is reversed, but the further effects will likely not be life threatening, After 72 hours, the sickness may be slowed but prognosis is much less optimistic. It is not recommened to administer the berry syrup after 5 days, as there is likely too much damage to the body to stop the progression of the sickness.

Permanent damage can include scarring on the skin, damage to lungs, and potential loss of vision,

Symptoms include skin burns and lesions, hair loss, weight loss, nausea, vomiting and muscle weakness. In later stages, difficulty breathing and pneumonia are likely.

BRK is contracted through contact with Yellow Powder. The material causes skin burns within hours of direct contact. Breathing in dust laced with yellow powder causes sever burns to lung and throat tissue.

Within days of contact, nausea and vomiting begin, as well a a general weakness. Appetite is curbed dramatically. After 4-5 days, hair begins to fall out. Within 10-14 days, lungs are affected regardless of contact method, and phenumonia sets in.

By the 20th day, most are either dead or dying.

It does not appear to have any transmission method other than the yellow powder.

Until recently, there was no treatment. Doctors in Chadigartu have discovered that the berries from the Aku Nevom Mepequ bush could be used to make an oral treamtment for early stages of BKR. The berries, and indeed most parts of the plant, are poisonous. But when boiled, the poison in the berries is neutralized. Combined with honey, the concoction is found to eventually stop the damage from contact with yellow powder.

Unfortunately, any damage already done is permanent and likely cannot be reversed.
